AT&T Dashing to the Store

Game, 3D Animation

Client:

AT&T, Integer Group

Snowball fights and sledding yetis, AT&T brings the holiday magic to it’s stores.

Customers across the nation enjoyed an experience like no other during the holiday season, with a retail retreat throughout AT&T stores in the form of an AR winter wonderland. With the help of a festive cast of characters and exciting games, 14Four created multiple experiences that pulled shoppers from the lull of long lines, and into a network of joy!

Challenge

With thousands of unique stores across the country, creating a consistent experience for all AT&T customers, regardless of their local store’s floor plan, was crucial. Points of entry, the types of mini-games, building a shareable experience –- all these factors needed to be considered before exploring the exciting methods that could be introduced through augmented reality.

Approach

Bringing this project to life required 14Four to create an entertaining world, filled with imaginative characters, for AT&T shoppers to step into. Characters with mischievous personalities and amusing interactions delighted customers every step of the way through their journey, as each mini-game was another part of a larger, enchanting story. Our goal became clear – create connected experiences within stores to lead to a connected experience across stores.

Solution

From concepts to gameplay, our team worked hard to ensure that every last snowflake was perfect. AT&T customers could navigate around stores, scanning display posters with their devices to open a mix of AR mini-games in their chosen browser. The interactions showcased exciting real-time AR world effects, allowing customers to fend off snowmen in a snowball fight, view holiday elves hard at work, or step through portals into a snow-capped forest. Our creative team imagined and designed all of the environments and characters, which were then brought to life by our 3D animators before moving into development. Once our festive friends were all set, it was time to have some fun!

Impact

The gloves (or mittens) were off when it came to shoppers getting up on the leaderboard for our Dashing to the Store mini-game. Customers’ competitive spirits shined, as audiences returned to their favorite mini-game again and again to beat the highest run time with their favorite sledding character. The game returned the following holiday season by popular demand, with updated environments as well as an in-store version that customers could play on provided tablets.
